Micky Abusana Bondo, IHP
Bess Weldon, Colby College
Katherine Stitham, Integrative Inquiry
Our latest project has come together in partnership with In Her Presence, a nonprofit 501(c)3 created by and for women from minority communities in Maine. IHP has identified a pressing need for access to professional development opportunities, digital literacy, and self-advocacy in Maine’s minority communities, particularly in supporting minority women and girls to combat systems of inequity.
Tools for Change
In Her Presence and Integrative Inquiry are partnering together to develop a unique leadership training program. The Courageous Dialogue Facilitator Program for Women will provide an intensive curriculum through which participants from both New Mainer and US Citizen backgrounds will partner together to build communication skills to become effective and responsive facilitators who can engage others in interactive discussions about cultural difference, bias, and the barriers impacting these communities.
At the end of this program, participants will be able to guide community groups in cross-cultural communication around the difficult issues of our times. Ultimately, the project aims to combat issues of racial bias, miscommunication, and tension through learning and growth with community residents from all backgrounds.
Our Pilot Program will deliver:

12 Trained Facilitators

Development of replicable 6-month Training Program

10+ Partner Organizations to host forums
Engagement and leadership development are essential to creating measurable, positive change in communities facing challenges and barriers.
The potential of community residents, especially immigrants and refugees, as catalysts for change is enormous.
Participants in this project will be provided with opportunities for building skills, advancing dialogue, and making professional connections that will lead to better opportunities for themselves and a community-driven approach to addressing barriers to success for New Mainers.
