POSITIONALITY STATEMENT
Having grown up in Hawaii and then spending many years living throughout the Middle East and Asia, I have spent a great deal of time immersed in environments rich with a range of experiences, beliefs, and values that differed from my own. Particularly as a white minority, I've found myself frequently involved in dynamic conversations that transformed the way I thought about the world and myself, which has led to a life-long commitment to growth and self-study, and an openness to change. Now as I live in Maine I spend a lot of time reflecting on the ways in which my backround and experiences inform my work.
In my studies, I dove deeply into understanding the processes of how people work together, driven to better understand the nature of human connection and conflict. My skill with instructional design and strategic planning, combined with a deep passion for social psychology and diversity, equity and inclusion gives me a unique lens in the field of development. I am interested not only in policy and practice, but in how we as individuals can transform our own beliefs, biases, and behaviors.
I see my work as a bridge, collaborating with others to navigate complex challenges, link diverse ideas and perspectives, and engage change with enthusiasm and commitment. The mission of this company is fundamentally about fulfilling this role as a "bridge" and is, in many ways, the culmination of my professional, personal, and academic experiences.

I grew up in a military household. Both of my parents were in the Army and so were their parents. As a result, I spent much of my childhood traveling the world and experienced many different cultures. It fundamentally shaped my outlook on cultural understanding and acceptance, challenging my religious and political upbringing.
As a black woman with an invisible disability married to another black woman and raising a child with a disability, my own experiences drive my perspective on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. They compel me to continue advocating and delivering measurable professional and personal progress. I have spent my career working for folks to receive equitable opportunities and fair treatment through research, education, and dialogue to help us all better understand differences and find compromise with the common goal of human decency.

POSITIONALITY STATEMENT
For much of my working life I’ve been the “only” on a team - the only woman, or the only person of color, or both. It’s given me great insight into how many different ways there are to look at a particular situation, experience, or policy. Iv’e also worked in multiple fields - the arts, law, tech, and learning & development. What I’ve found in intersectionality - both personally and professionally - is that there is a great deal that we can learn from each other and from other industries if we stay open, ask questions, truly examine presumptions, and embody the spirit of continuous improvement.
I’ve observed, time and time again, that how people feel about their work drives their performance. That existing presumptions about how inclusion impedes growth and progress are deeply flawed. That building a high-trust environment is the most powerful step an organization can take to drive engagement, treat people with dignity, *and* achieve success as an organization. That is what I bring to my teaching and consulting work, and it is my goal to empower people to bring those positive outcomes to their teams.Consultant

Having grown up in a predominantly white middle-class community, it wasn’t until University that I truly had my social assumptions challenged and my worldview expanded. Only then did I realize how truly important diversity is and how much work is needed to be done in the space of equity and inclusion.
Following university I lived in sub-Saharan Africa for several years and continued to work internationally for most of my career. Working on a team with over fifty different languages spoken, and differing cultural backgrounds and experience further deepened my evolving reflection and experience on the importance of bridging cultural barriers and breaking down innate walls of opportunity. It is through the intersection of my own upbringing and these personal and professional experiences that I see my role as a connector and facilitator of understanding to help foster a more collaborative and aware workplace and environment.
